For thirty years, I was a secondary mathematics teacher in the Council Rock School District in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. While raising my family, I was always active in school and community organizations, and have become more involved since retiring. I have served on various committees in our community and on the Board of our Homeowner’s Association and have worked as a volunteer teaching math to adults working to obtain their GED. My husband Mark and I have been traveling to San Marcos La Laguna since 2007.
I became involved with Konojel in 2014, when we engaged Andrew Raphael as our Spanish tutor. Andrew was one of the co-founders of Konojel, he asked if I would be interested in volunteering in the after-school enrichment program and helping to develop some math activities. Once I volunteered at Konojel, I was totally hooked. After that, my husband and I became more involved as volunteers, donors, and supporters of the nutrition and education programs, as well as the restaurant, Comedor Konojel.
On our trip in 2017, a series of events led to us taking over as directors of the All Together Foundation, along with our friend and another Konojel supporter, David Battiscombe. This foundation is a non-profit that was created for the sole purpose of facilitating tax-deductible donations to Konojel.
My goal as a director is to continue to support Konojel in its work to provide nutritious meals, educational basics and enrichment, and a wide variety of essential programs to the indigenous people of San Marcos through my personal commitment, as well as by increasing the awareness and involvement of others in this very worthwhile project.
